One Piece: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition is Out On the Switch

New One Piece Game Actually Looks Pretty Cool

I haven’t given a thought to the entire One Piece franchise since it started. Apparently I’ve been missing out? If nothing else, this newest entry in the franchise looks like a fascinating departure from the usual formula these games follow. Rather than the standard ass-kicking and awful naming scheme, Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition (holy cow what a mouthful) is adding exploration to the mix. Neat!

Okay, so the exploration element is a little light, but anything to break up the constant battling is a welcome reprieve. Not that there’s anything wrong with kicking major ass from dawn till dusk, but a little downtime makes all the fighting feel more significant. The game will feature a whole host of iconic fighters from the One Piece franchise, presumably unlocked by progressing through the story.

The entire story is confined to the Forgotten Island, where Luffy’s cohorts have been confined by The Red Count. Also there’s a raccoon named Pato and a whole mess of prison breaks. Lots of ass-kicking opportunities, in other words. In addition to the story mode, there will be co-op missions and a Battle Coliseum to explore. The deluxe edition also comes with all of the DLC, which I’m guessing is pretty costume-heavy. Last but not least, check out the announcement trailer embedded below. Were these games always this kind of cool looking? Have I been missing out? I feel like I’ve been missing out.
