No News for Squre Enix’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider at E3

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Still in the Dark

Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the next chapter in the Lara Croft’s series, was leaked back in November when a Reddit user saw someone working on a presentation for a new game with the heading “Shadow of the Tomb Raider.” The picture was snapped in Montreal, hinting that Eidos Montreal would be working on the upcoming title rather than Crystal Dynamics.

The pieces fell into place in January when Square Enix announced that Crystal Dynamics would be working on a Marvel Avengers title next, not Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Eidos Montreal will also help Crystal Dynamics with the Marvel title, but with over 350 employees at the Eidos Montreal location, the studio can handle multiple titles at once.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

In another surprise, official Tomb Raider fansite Turning Point shared information from franchise Senior Community Manager Meagan Marie that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will not be announced at E3 this year. There are, however, plenty of opportunities later in the year to pull the trigger on an official announcement for the title, like Gamescom 2017 which takes place From August 22nd to the 25th.

In delaying the official announcement, it could mean the game won’t be released this Fall, which would be just two years after Rise of the Tomb Raider. The danger with releasing the next title in the series so far apart is losing that anticipation and hype of the fans. In two years, the landscape could have changed drastically, and a portion of the fanbase could be lost.

Still, with an established brand like Tomb Raider, the chances of a dwindling fanbase are unlikely. Maybe that Reddit user can buddy up with that guy working on the presentation and get some more juicy info on what’s next for Shadow of the Tomb Raider!
