Dragon Quext XI Has Cross Save-Like Feature Between 3DS and PS4 Versions

It’s More of an Estimation Rather Than 100% Character Data Transferred

Last month, Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time announced a rather intriguing bundle that packs the PS4 and 3DS versions of the game into the same big box. The significance of that pack-in was made a whole lot clearer today as Square Enix updated its official website with new info including details on a mechanic that sort of functions a broke-ass cross-save between the PS4 and 3DS versions. Gematsu reports:

■ Spell of Restoration

The “Spell of Restoration” is a feature that lets you continue your adventure from roughly the same place in the story by entering a code into the adventure log menu. Since you can log the hero’s name and roughly how far you’ve advanced in the story, you can continue the story on a different platform. (Your level, the amount of money you have, and your possessions will be replaced with those prepared beforehand based on your progress of the story.)

—By entering the Spell of Restoration, you can pick up your adventure from approximately where you last left off in the story.

Thus, it’s not a true cross-save feature as it’s more of an estimation of where you last played in the story. Since it resets your level to where the game thinks you should be at that point in the story, JRPG grinders will probably skip using this feature. The website update also sheds light on Dragon Quest XI‘s character progression system by featuring an upgrade system that looks like Final Fantasy XII’s License Board:

Dragon Quest XI

■ Skill Panel

The Skill Panel consists of each member of the party’s skills arranged as panels. By allocating the Skill Points you obtain by leveling up and other means, you can learn special skills and increase your stats. Do it all in a growth system unique to Dragon Quest XI!

—Freely choose which skills you want to learn, and develop your characters to your liking!

While not ruled out officially, the system above would certainly be easier to estimate rather the series’ traditional vocation system that let characters swap classes. While Dragon Quest XI has been confirmed for the Switch, there’s no official word yet on this “Spell of Restoration” feature being in that version too, but it’s very likely to appear.
