The Creepy World of We Happy Few to be Adapted to the Big Screen

We Happy Few is Now a We Happy Film

Still waiting on that early access of We Happy Few to become a full game?  Well, wait … a little longer!  Compulsion Games is partnering with dj2 Entertainment (the guys who are doing the Life is Strange adaptation) and Gold Circle Films (Pitch Perfect) to bring the dystopian drug adventure to the big screen.

Who are these big beautiful baby boys taking a shot at the brass ring?  Dmitri M. Johnson, Dan Jevons, and Stephan Bugaj from dj2 approached Compulsion Games before We Happy Few was even released to the public, intrigued by the world and characters that WHF had created.

Don’t know who dj2 is?  They’re the people that brought you the fun Nerdist animated series Skulls of the Shogun, and … Hawken?  You guys remember that super-successful and free-to-play Mechwarrior knockoff Hawken?  Well, they’re doing the movie to it sometime in 2019.  Hawken?

Look, dj2 may not have many projects under their belts, BUT they deal exclusively in transmedia projects, which We Happy Few falls into.  But you know who seems really excited about a film adaptation?  Gold Circle Films’ Paul Brooks saying, “As a Brit and a fan of shows like The Prisoner, the game’s social satire resonated with me. I wanted this project immediately …”

Dude is stoked.  Or maybe they loaded him up with Joy pills from the game and he’s actually trapped behind his eyes, screaming from the depths of his body. But when everyone on the project is a fan, it then becomes a labor of love.  The quality, attention to detail, and keeping the film in line with the game experience becomes very important.  This is echoed by dj2’s Johnson in his statement saying, “Our commitment is to make a movie that remains true to and expands on its great source material.”

It’s kind of a generic, bland statement, but maybe he didn’t take his Joy pills before the interview!
