Prepare for a Grim Future; The Surge Has Gone Gold

Developer Deck13 Has Announced That the Surge Has Gone Gold

Great news, everyone – The Surge has gone gold.Action RPG fans will want to mark May 16th, 2017 on their calendar, because that’s when Focus Home Interactive’s “The Surge” will be released. The Surge was developed by Deck13, who you might remember from their last action-RPG style game Lords of the Fallen (2014).

While we don’t know much about the story yet, but Focus Home Interactive did tell us a little about the premise of the game: “The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization”.

The Surge protagonist, Warren, who is equipped with an exoskeleton and is able to loot, craft and upgrade weapons and armor. Combat looks to be a much more personal affair utilizing melee combat which features a targeting and dismemberment system. That’s right, you’ll be ripping off your opponents limbs! As such, you won’t be using light or heavy attacks, but rather vertical or horizontal attacks. Weapons will each have different moves and finishers. Armor will have different attributes to help protect Warren from different situations. Finally, Warren won’t just battle other humans, he’ll also battle robots and huge bosses. One boss fight we saw featured a robot that was easily three times the size of Warren.

The Surge will be available for everyone on PlayStation 4Xbox One and PC.

Note: a free update will be released shortly after the release of the game for PS4 Pro. This will allow players to play in Dynamic 4K at 30fps or in 1080p at 60fps.
