Remedy Entertainment Announces No More Xbox Exclusives

Quantum Break Marks the Last Xbox Exclusive from the Finnish Developer

Many years have passed since Remedy Entertainment hopped on the Xbox train and stuck with it. Since then, they have cranked out a series of notable titles that have garnered praise from Xbox players: Max Payne, Alan Wake, Death Rally, and more. But after releasing their latest Xbox One exclusive, Quantum Break, the Finnish game developer is saying goodbye to console-exclusivity.

Quantum Break Update

Now, Remedy is picking up where they left off in 2003, the year they released Max Payne 2 for Xbox and PlayStation 2. Henceforth, we shall witness their IPs on more platforms, seeing as they’ve officially announced their plan to port their Northlight engine to the PlayStation 4. And their latest work in progress codenamed P7 is expected to release for both PS4 and Xbox One.

Perhaps Remedy Entertainment needed a financial boost before breaking out into multi-platform development. Such was the circumstance of Respawn whose original Titanfall debuted on the Xbox One. Or it may be that developers saw little progress to be made with Microsoft alone, despite reporting a 20% rise in revenue from Quantum Break’s release. There’s no specific explanation for the move.

On top of a new IP, Remedy is currently working on the single-player story mode for SmileGate’s Crossfire 2. With another talented team at the Korean developers back, we have nothing but high expectations for the sequel to one of the most popular online shooters.

We can probably expect some more concrete information about current projects at this year’s E3. Until then, feel free to comment down below your thoughts about Remedy’s ejection from console exclusivity. Was it the right choice?
