Nioh Game Director Talks Possible Sequel and DLC

If Nioh Achieves More Sales, a Sequel May Be Guaranteed

Today, we have information about Nioh thanks to the ever-engaging Famitsu Magazine. In this weekly edition, we learn some interesting tidbits from Game Director Fumihiko Yasuda.

Nioh

Apparently, there have been fan requests for a female-skinned protagonist. Not really sure what that would look like, but a white-haired lass behind the sword would be interesting. Yasuda stated that it is a popular request but doesn’t know whether it is possible. At the very least, he’s considering the idea with some positivity.

Somewhere down the line, there were requests for playable Dead or Alive characters in Nioh; specifically, Honoka and Ayane. That’s not going to happen.

Yasuda was able to reveal some info about the impending DLC, “The Dragon of Tohoku.” Aside from the likelihood of seeing a dragon, Yasuda confirmed that it’s an end-game DLC taking character William to the northern areas of the Tokugawa shogunate, where a mysterious evil lurks and plagues the air. Expect to meet more historical figures including Date Masamune, renown samurai of Feudal Japan. Expect another unique form of yokai as well.

Nioh

Since we are months into Nioh’s post-launch, it made sense when Yasuda was asked about a possible sequel. Again, he made no definitive statements but expressed positive sentiment. This positivity stems from the game’s success in Japan and overseas. Because of that result, both he and Koei Tecmo President Hisashi Koinuma are taking a sequel into consideration.

Only time will tell if fans can expect a sequel. Time will also factor into the game’s overall success. We’ll be sure to deliver more updates as they come. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts toward a Nioh sequel and future DLC. Happy gaming.
