Persistent Player Opens Impossible Chest in Breath of the Wild

Impossible Chest Holds Fairly Basic Reward for Such a Complicated Task

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the kind of game that inspires players to collect everything they possibly can. To that end, players recently discovered an impossible chest, a treasure that can’t be collected no matter what you try. Naturally, once players exhausted all the conventional methods, they resorted to some unconventional ones.

Zelda Breath of the Wild Impossible Chest

A redditor by the name of Pimpinpinguino found that exploiting a glitch in the emulated Wii U version allows you to approach and open this tantalizing treasure. According to him, since the chest is “stuck in the ground and won’t budge,” the usual methods for extraction no longer apply. Magnesis, Cryonis, bombs and arrows are all utterly ineffective. Only by walking on the submerged ground surrounding the chest can you get close enough to open it.

Inside the chest is an opal, of course. Since the chest was clearly never meant to be placed in such an impossible location, there’s nothing out of the ordinary inside. Had this object found its proper home, perhaps on the beach or surrounded by Bokoblins, the reward would feel more appropriate. For the full unveiling of the aforementioned opal in it’s mismatched housing, check out the video below.
