Persona 5 Gets Its First Review, and It Is a Perfect Score

Hype Levels Rising for the next Big JRPG by Atlus

Despite the fact that it has been out in Japan for some time, we are still patiently awaiting the arrival of Persona 5 in the west. The release date is April, and ever since its release in Japan, we have been getting uniform updates on the game’s facets and qualities. We learned about Personas, Confidants, Heists, and the uncanny Velvet Room where players upgrade and manage powers. But, pertaining to the game itself, we received our first surprise when developers chose Persona 5 as their best game of 2016.

Persona 5

Now the first review of the game is in, and Official PlayStation Magazine UK is singing Persona 5’s praises from here to the Phantom Zone. According to PlayStation Universe, OPM UK has issued Atlus’s next installment a 10/10.  Not only is it the best game of the franchise, they’re calling it “the most accomplished, accessible, precocious modern JRPG out there.”

The website was also so bold as to declare Persona 5 a better RPG than Final Fantasy XV. It’s probably no stretch to say Final Fantasy XV brought significantly more anticipation than Persona 5 currently has. But this is how OPM UK supported their claim: Whether you’re a series fan, a JRPG evangelist or a total turn-based newcomer, this is an essential play. Persona 5 is packed with stuff to do, expertly put together and exquisite to the last pixel. An unabashed masterpiece.”

Persona 5

Hype is building for Atlus’s new game, so we wait with baited breath until Persona 5 finally arrives for westerners. Then, we’ll evaluate for ourselves if it can live up to all the praise. Perfect scores are usually few and far between, but 2017 has proved a rare year, for us especially. Horizon Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are two recent games we’ve given perfect scores at COGconnected, and they were practically released back to back. Perhaps Persona 5 will be the third? Come back to discover the fate of PS4’s exclusive. Happy gaming.
