Nathan Drake Absent in Uncharted The Lost Legacy, Plus New Details

Uncharted The Lost Legacy Shall Remain Large and Compelling

Thanks to Sid Shuman at the PlayStation Blog, we learn a little bit about what Naughty Dog has in the works. All that early insight into Uncharted The Lost Legacy paints us a better picture of what awaits in their expansion. The best critically acclaimed game of 2016 was a mega treat, in and of itself. But it seems developers desire a new approach with this alleged spin-off.

As many are probably aware, Uncharted The Lost Legacy takes place months after the events of Uncharted 4. Players see the unknown through the eyes of Uncharted 2′s Chloe Frazer. Her task entails finding the Tusk of Ganesh, another priceless relic. Accompanying her is Nadine Ross, the ex-military hardliner introduced in Uncharted 4; they do not see eye-to-eye. But Naughty Dog has their reasons for pairing this duo:

“They’re both treasure hunters,” simply put. “Drake has a bit of a hero complex, but Chloe looks out for number one, first and foremost.” At the same time, Nadine needs the work and has complex motivations. “Chloe would need somebody with military expertise. In all of Uncharted, Nadine is probably the most rational and practical character we’ve ever introduced. She tends to take a direct approach.”

Additionally, we can expect new tools. Among them, a new lethal silenced pistol. And because of its popularity in Uncharted 4 multiplayer, there will be C4. On top of those, we can expect new combat tactics:

“There are entire combat setups that you can skip, go around, or approach from any direction. It’s got a bigger, more organic feel, with more player choice and more stealth options.”

And in true stealth fashion in RPGs, there will be lockpicking. Naughtydog is still working on its realism for in high-stress situations. Expect to see it in the game.

Lastly, Naughty Dog entertained the idea of Nate in the game but decided it was unnecessary.

“We entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character. But everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4.” Margenau was even more direct. “We’re not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all.”

Devs decided you don’t need Iron Man in every Marvel Movie. And that’s just fine. Expect a bigger world in Uncharted The Lost Legacy and a standalone experience. Shuman witnessed “loads of environmental variety,” with puzzles and surprises in beautiful regions.

Naughty Dog is hard at work to deliver an experience that stands on its own merits. With different, complex characters, we could be in for a treat. Anyone who purchased Uncharted 4 Digital Deluxe Edition or the Explorer’s Pack will automatically receive the expansion at launch.

Stick around while we wait for an official release date. And if you haven’t already done so, check out our review of Uncharted 4 here. Happy gaming.
