Ghost Recon Wildlands Is the Biggest Launch in the UK This Year

Other Great Games Fall Just below Ubisoft’s Open-World Shooter

In an interesting display of where people stand with shooters, Ghost Recon Wildlands has apparently witnessed the biggest UK launch this year. It has beaten the likes of Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Additionally, it would have been the biggest launch for a Tom Clancy game if not for The Division, reports Eurogamer.

Considering all the noise surrounding the launch of Horizon and Breath of the Wild, it might come as a surprise that Ghost Recon Wildlands arrived at no.1 this week. Nevertheless, Ubisoft proved that there is a strong desire for open-world shooters. The question now is whether its launch can build momentum.

Yet, speaking of momentum, Horizon: Zero Dawn managed to stay near the top with its no.2 spot. That momentum probably owes itself to the consistency of great review scores. As Guerrilla Games’ first open-world project, it managed to knock expectations out of the park.

Following Horizon: Zero Dawn is Lego Worlds at no.3. The toy company has garnered much popularity, thanks to the success of its movies; that, in conjunction with nostalgia and its harken to Minecraft, may make it this year’s sandbox game of choice. And then you get Breath of the Wild. But, in all fairness, the game may get more sales once Nintendo actually bothers to mass produce its console (assuming all its reported bugs are fixed by then).

Platinum Games made something of itself with the release of NieR: Automata (another well-reviewed game) that came in sixth place. After that, the usual suspects. Get a look at the top 10 list below:
