Will the Nintendo Switch Have Personality?

Nintendo Switch to Have an Extra Personal Touch

We are just one week away from the release of the Nintendo Switch, one week away from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and there are still new details about the console rolling in. It has been announced that like with the Switch itself, Nintendo is bringing something new to the table, adding a ‘personal assistant’ to the console. The hype for a console has never been more real!

As with previous consoles by Nintendo, the Switch offers a news section where players will receive updates or new game and accessory releases, tips and tricks, as well as deals. What sets the Switch apart from the other consoles however is this additional personality that will be added to the news feature. Players will now receive news from Amelia, as her portrait will show up in the top left corner of all of the exciting news updates on the console.

Each news item is written as if she was speaking directly to you, and often ends her updates with quirky or personal messages. Apparently, as a result of one of these messages, we know that Amelia really likes cake! Who knew? Of course this isn’t quite like Siri for the Iphone, or Cortana for Microsoft, however it definitely adds a personal touch to the already groundbreaking console. And that’s not to say this feature could expand and grow in the future!

While this isn’t the first time Nintendo has tried to put a face on its hardware, it certainly makes the Switch that much more appealing to anyone who might be on the fence about it. The last time Nintendo tried this was with the tutorial character with the Swapnote app for the 3DS. In Swapnote, players were able to draw notes that could be sent to friends. Within this app, there was also a Mii named Nikki who added a certain charm.

What do you think of this idea? Let us know in the comments below. Check out what Amelia will look like below, and keep it locked for updates on the Nintendo Switch as we draw closer and closer to the release date next Friday!
