JRPG Atelier Firis Gets a New Gameplay Trailer and More

Koei Tecmo Reveals More About Upcoming Game: Atelier Firis Including Combat Mechanics and Boss Battle Screenshots

Today, Koei Tecmo released a ton of new information about their upcoming JRPG game: Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey. The latest in a long line of Atelier games that stretches back to 1997, Atelier Firis will release for PS4, Vita, and PC on March 7th.

Atelier Firis

a 4-minute long video featuring actual gameplay footage of a boss battle has been released today along with details about the unique combat system. Atelier games have long been known for their light mood and alchemy based item system that influences everything from crafting potions and gear to what sort of attacks you can sling at foes. From the look of things, these classic elements are returning in The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey. Check out the beautiful gameplay trailer below and try to excuse the amazingly high pitched voice acting of the titular character:

Every collectible character will be able to harness their own unique standard and special attacks, as well as use alchemical offensive items to attack in battle. Chaining together certain abilities will fill the “Linkage Gauge” and eventually allow the player to unleash powerful “Chain Burst” attacks in which all characters interlink their moves to deal significant damage in one impressive blow. For the first time in the Atelier series, Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey will feature sub-weapons, further deepening the battle system. Each character will be able to equip up to two different types of these sub-weapons, “each with different skill effect and different types of damage.”

Koei Tecmo has a reputation for putting out quality games and no doubt Atelier Firis will deliver pleasantly familiar JRPG action for PlayStation and PC users. Too bad Xbox gamers are left out on this one, but it will be pretty cool to play this game on the handheld PlayStation Vita!
