Del Toro Officially Crushes All Hopes Of Hellboy 3

Oh, This Is Just Sad.

Guillermo del Toro officially announced today via Twitter that there will be no Hellboy 3. The tweet does mention that this was a decision coming from all parties with potential involvement, and it seems final that fans will not be getting a sequel to the 2008 Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Sad news indeed. Despite the fact that a good chunk of time has elapsed since the last installment, some fans were quick to voice their disappointment in the formal announcement. Seems like they had yet to give up hope.

And in fact we can hardly blame fans for holding out hard in the hopes the movie would come.

Del Toro has been wishy washy on the entire subject for quite some time. Back in 2014 on a Reddit AMA, he stated that “Well, you know, we don’t have that movie on the horizon, but the idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse…”. This statement seems to both confirm and deny that a third movie was in the cards.

Then in January he tweeted that he had sat down to discuss the possible film with lead actor Ron Perlman and creator Mike Mignola. He even put up a poll asking fans if they would want another sequel. How cruel is this?

Guess the meeting did not go exactly as some hoped. It shouldn’t be that surprising yet it is sad to know we won’t be seeing any more film adaptations of Dark Horse Comic’s dark series any time soon.

Well what do you think? Are you as bummed as this writer? Or were you never a big Hellboy fan? Let us know in the comments!
