Dark Souls-inspired Sci-fi, The Surge, gets New Cinematic Trailer

In the Deep Future of Earth, This Is What a Day at Work Looks Like

A curiosity at first glance, The Surge represents a dive into hardcore RPG in a sci-fi setting. With a lot of buzz surrounding its souls-like gameplay, this game by Deck 13 could be the next rage-inducing melee before we get another Miyazaki title. Herein is our first cinematic trailer introducing us to the story behind The Surge:

About

As the intelligence of technology incrementally increased over the years, many jobs for the human race had been made redundant, forcing Earth’s citizens to head out into the suburbs seeking labor, aided by exoskeletons to improve their efficiency. The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization.

So in this terrible world of an aging humanity, you are another slave to the grind. Taking on the role of a man simply known as Warren, you’re recruited by CREO. And as in all first days at work, disaster follows. You start infused with an exo-suit, with flesh and bone carved to fit(which is the normal part, btw). Then, all of a sudden, robots go haywire, employees go mad, some event has set everything on the warpath. In sum, everyone and everything wants you dead. Hitherto, you’re just an average Joe trying to get through your first day on the job.

The Surge

Here are The Surge’s key features:

  • Tight, visceral hardcore action RPG combat with make-shift industrial weapons
  • A unique dismemberment and upgrade system utilizing cybernetic implants
  • Fight in a dystopian world full of mystery and learn about the events surrounding The Surge
  • Battle an array of huge industrial bosses
  • Craft, upgrade, and build new weapons with loot and blueprints

Apparently, it’s you’re improvising with company’s technology to survive all this mayhem. Yep, thing’s just lying around facilitate the bloodbaths. That’s some company you work for. Plus, the exoskeleton just makes you a killing machine.

You’ll see The Surge hit shelves on May 2017 for Xbox One, PC, and PS4. Until then, feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments. Does this seem like a game Soulsborne fans can enjoy?
