The Nintendo Switch Will Not Use Friend Codes for Online Services, but It Doesn’t Seem Like It Will Use Set Online IDs Either

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime announced in an interview with CNET that the Nintendo Switch will not use friend codes for communicating via their online services. The words “There are no friend codes within what we’re doing” have never sounded so sweet. However, instead of using those bulky 12-digit codes that Nintendo has assigned to individual players in order to hang out on the Wii U or 3DS, Nintendo Switch players will connect with other players on a case-by-case basis. What this means exactly, we’re not sure, but by the way it sounds, it doesn’t seem like Nintendo plans to set individual “Gamertag” IDs for players either.
