A Literal Return to Form with Double Dragon IV for PS4 and Steam

Developer Directly Succeeds Previous Titles Though Double Dragon IV

For the 30th anniversary of Technōs’ legendary Double Dragon Series we shall witness its return via Double Dragon IV. We’re talking pretty old school here, so old-school that you’ll probably impulsively punch your sibling for the controller. But wait! It’s a coop game, a coop game that actually could pass for a direct sequel to Double Dragon 2. And in case you’re unsure what that means, Double Dragon IV is coming out as classically as classic can get. No HD nor current gen scaling. It’s going 8 bit all the way. See for yourself in their new trailer:

Talk about an old way of doing things. And since this version is practically a copy and paste of past Nintendo gaming, albeit different systems, we anticipate a suited price point. Since the Japanese version is supposedly 800 yen, that would equate to about $7 USD. Again, this is Super Dragon IV with NES graphics, no 3D additions or awesome revamps to hook the latest gaming generation like Rogue Legacy or Shovel Knight. At the very least, we can hope for some creative moves going for the 8-bit butt kicker.

Double Dragon 4 is will be released quite soon: January 30th for PS4 and PC via Steam. But what do you think of this return to classic form from a classic franchise? Worth? Has Arc System Works completely lost their minds in opting for that NES look? Please let us know, gamers. And in the meantime, remember to keep up with COGconnected. Happy gaming.
