Microsoft Won’t Make Same Mistake As Sony, Exec Says Scorpio Games Will “Natively Render 4K”

Microsoft Says Scorpio Games Will “Natively Render 4K”

With 6TFLOPs of performance and a new semi-custom Polaris + Zen AMD SoC to enable 4K gaming, Microsoft’s Xbox One Project Scorpio will be a beast of a machine. While Microsoft isn’t talking specifics about the Xbox Scorpio’s price just yet, Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg said Microsoft sees the system as a “premium product.” Furthermore, another Xbox Executive is saying that games running on the console slated to come out next year will natively render at 4K.

Shannon Loftis, from Microsoft, recently revealed in an interview that any game launching in the Scorpio time-frame will “natively render at 4K” at least, and that they’re making sure games run at this native resolution. This comes in the wake of Sony execs stating that their PS4 Pro will upscale most 4K content, as we reported yesterday. Loftis says Microsoft is already exploring virtual reality options and games for Xbox, which will support VR with Scorpio, as well as prepping titles for the boost in visual quality. “Any games we’re making that we’re launching in the Scorpio time frame, we’re making sure they can natively render at 4K.”
