New Zelda Amiibo Revealed, New DLC for Hyrule Warriors Legends, 3 Zelda Books Announced, and Skyward Sword Now on Wii U

A heap of Legend of Zelda news was revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct for the franchise’s 30th Anniversary. Four new amiibo were shown, three new Zelda books were announced, Skyward Sword is now available for the Wii U Virtual Console, and the third DLC pack for Hyrule Warriors Legends was revealed. Let’s break it down.

The amiibo feature 8-bit Link, Ocarina of Time Link, and a two-pack of Toon Link and Zelda as she appeared in Wind Waker. These will be available Dec. 2, 2016. It was revealed that these amiibo would play a special role in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What that is, we will have to wait and see.

Nintendo is also continuing its partnership with Dark Horse Comics to release three new Zelda books. The first book, available for pre-order on Amazon now, is The Legend of Zelda: Art and Artifacts, which showcases over 2000 illustrations, box art, promotional pieces, and interviews with the series’ design team over 400 pages. The book will also offer a sneak peek at Breath of the Wild before the game’s release. It will be available on Feb. 21, 2017 in hardcover.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is now available on the Wii U Virtual Console. Originally released on Wii, you can download it on Wii U through the Nintendo eShop today.

A third DLC pack was also announced for Hyrule Warriors Legends: the Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks Pack is available today on 3DS through the in-game extras menu. The Direct showed Toon Link fighting off a horde of enemies using the Sand Rod, as well as Toon Zelda fighting as a Phantom. A new Adventure Mode map was revealed as well. Nintendo is also discounting the price of the season pass for all four DLC packs.
