Sony: From AAA to Indie, We Don’t Discriminate

One wouldn’t have to go too far in order to find criticism of Sony spending a bit too much time favoring the indie scene. We’d have to disagree as games like Journey and The Unfinished Swan are examples of some of the best games ever made. Fresh new ideas and interesting twists on gameplay are all over the indie scene so why not support them?

Journey Sony Indie Game

Speaking at Gamescom this week, PlayStation Executive Jim Ryan insisted that Sony cares about great games and doesn’t stress about where they came from. Ryan was asked if Sony has a hard time balancing the different types of they offer their support to and said, “At the end of the day, it’s just about great games. We don’t discriminate between something that’s a AAA or something that’s an indie. If something’s a great game, then it gets focus, attention, and love.”

The obvious thing to point out for Ryan was the recently released No Man’s Sky and how Sony put just as much time and effort into supporting it as they would any other major AAA release. If an indie game is deserving of support then it should get it, that’s our take. We have to side with Sony on this issue!
