Aaron Greenberg Optimistic for August Sales After Xbox One Tops July

July was a great month for the Xbox One. Building off a price cut of the 500GB Xbox One bundle Microsoft managed to snag top spot for sales in the month according to NPD. Now Aaron Greenberg, Xbox’s affable marketing boss is saying he’s quite optimistic for what August has in store especially since the Xbox One S is already selling well ahead of expectations.

In an interview on Windows Central, Greenberg commented on what clicked in July and why August is looking so good saying, “We saw tons of momentum coming out of E3. It was a huge show for us. We announced a lot. Two new consoles. We showcased a huge games lineup, a lot of Xbox Live innovation. It’s great to see the July NPD as a result. We had a really good response coming out of that. In August, I think we’re going to sell a lot of consoles.”

Microsoft Great Moments Xbox One S

Not wanting to stir the pot too much Greenberg lightly skirted the very bold question of whether or not Microsoft and the Xbox One would outsell the PS4 in August for a two-month run at the top. Instead, he stated that their biggest focus is on themselves and no one else.

“We just kind of focus on what we’re doing and how we’re performing,” he said. “We’re really pleased with how the Xbox One S has been performing. It has exceeded our expectations. We’re trying to make as many as we can, as fast as we can, as we try to get these new bundles out to the market. We’ll see, we’ll see how it turns out.”

With bundles out the wazoo and a tempting 2TB model, it is expected that the Xbox One S would have a fantastic August. Surprisingly, Greenberg feels that the 2TB model, despite having the larger HD, is probably the least desirable of the Xbox One S consoles. While it appeals to the core gamers it’s also widely known that casual gamers make up a far bigger part of the market and that they wouldn’t see the need for the extra space. Greenberg commented on this saying, “Believe it or not, most consumers won’t buy the 2 TB version, but we know for a lot of our core fans, that’s what they want.”
