Nintendo Confirms Miniature NES Will Not Be Getting Any More Games

Nintendo is on top of the world right now between the rabid fanbase for Pokemon GO to the universal claims of ‘I want one!’ for its newly announced NES Mini. Including 30 great games, there has been a ton of responses from fans asking that their favorite games from the NES era be included in the future. We even put together a list of the 10 games we’d love to see on the device that were sadly left out. Dropping on Nov. 11 at a cost of around $60 it has been confirmed by Nintendo themselves that the Miniature NES won’t be receiving any additional titles.

NES Classic Edition Mini-Console

During a recent interview, a representative from Nintendo referred to the Mini NES as a ‘standalone device’ that won’t be able to connect to the internet. This rules out adding any games via download. It was also confirmed that there won’t be any form of external storage and that the device doesn’t open to accept NES cartridges. When asked directly if we would see any other games added to the mini console the rep responded with a pretty absolute no.

No. The console is a standalone device, so it cannot connect to the internet or any external storage devices. The 30 games included with the system were chosen to provide a wide variety of top-quality, long-lasting game-play experiences.

The rep was also asked if there were any plans for adaptations of other Nintendo consoles like the Super NES or N64 but stated that they have nothing to announce at this time. It’s pretty safe to assume that if the mini NES does as well as we all think it will that Nintendo certainly wouldn’t rule it out.
