Now You Can Own a Real, Working Fallout Pip-Boy

Bethesda and ThinkGeek are offering the chance to finally own a real Fallout Pip-Boy

You’ve spent hundreds of hours wandering the Wasteland – collecting aluminum cans, coffee mugs, and desk fans. You’ve killed so many Mole-Rats, you swear you almost taste their gamey flesh in your mouth. Haven’t you earned yourself a treat? Well, now you can reward yourself in style, with a genuine, working Fallout Pip-Boy.

Now, before you say anything, this is NOT the phone-case Pip-Boy that came with the Collector’s Edition of Fallout 4. No, this is the real deal, complete with its own on-board, built-in Pip OS software. The knobs actually function, just like in the game, and it even has a Holotape (which is a 16GB storage drive). It does connect to your phone via Bluetooth though – so you can use it to make calls or receive texts.

Here is a full list of the device’s features, from the ThinkGeek website:

  • Take calls on your Fallout Pip-Boy, play music through it, or just have the coolest wristband in the Commonwealth
  • Comes with RobCo Industries stand that doubles as a charging base and speaker
  • Ships in a Capsule-Case-inspired tin designated for Vault 111 deployment
  • Not a phone case – integrated screen and on-board Pip-OS software
  • The knobs, dials, and buttons function
  • Default functions: Cosplay mode (displays Status, Special, and Perks screens) and alarm clock
  • Additional functions when paired to Bluetooth device: SMS messaging (receive only), phone (receive or place calls and access contacts), and audio file streaming
  • Stereo speakers in both device and stand
  • Top compartment stores a holotape that’s a 16 GB USB drive
  • Materials: ABS plastic body with metal trim and molded silicone foam liner
  • Batteries: Rechargeable lithium
  • Recharges on the stand or can be charged while you’re wearing it (but you’ll be tethered to the outlet)
  • Pip-Boy Exterior Dimensions: 7″ long x 5″ wide diameter to 7″ wide (at widest)
  • Interior Dimensions: 7 1/4″ circumference at smallest point (foam padding allows expansion up to 9 1/2″ – fits most human arms, but if around your wrist is bigger than 9 1/2″ at the smallest bit, you will be sad). Weight: 2 lbs
  • Includes Pip-Boy Model 3000 Mk IV replica, RobCo Industries stand, Capsule-Case-inspired tin, 16 GB USB drive shaped like a holotape, and AC wall adapter with type B USB cable

fallout pip-boyNow, keep in mind that of course, this Fallout Pip-Boy does not come with Fallout 4 the game, or any other Fallout title. And sadly, it does not interface with the game itself (actually an unfortunate omission). That said, it is one cool toy piece of equipment. It is in pre-order right now, and apparently ships in December for a price of $349.99 US (sorry, bottlecaps not accepted – pre-war money only).

Interested? Check out ThinkGeek’s website here. Alternatively, you can also get it from Bethesda here. And is case you missed it, Fallout 4 is getting a really cool Nuka-Cola DLC soon that will let you play as a Raider – check out the details here.
