Jimmy Kimmel Faces “Avalanche” of Backlash Over Video Games Sketch

Jimmy Kimmel has spoken out about the “avalanche” of online abuse he has received after his recent sketch poking fun at video games culture.

In case you haven’t seen the sketch, it is about a fake service that allows viewers to watch other people play video games:

As one example of the anger he received, Kimmel said that he has been called a “stupid fat boy,” “a stupid bearded gorilla,” and a “f—ing egg.” “I like eggs,” Kimmel joked. “I’m all right with that.”

Another YouTuber wrote, “So I guess watching football is dumb because I could be playing it instead,” to which Kimmel responded directly.

“Watching people play football is dumb,” Kimmel said. “I do it every Sunday. I know it’s dumb … but watching people play video games isn’t like watching people play football. It’s like watching people play fantasy football. It’s one more step removed from human activity.”

Lastly, Kimmel offered some advice to the angry commenters: they should “go outside and play” or “watch a video of someone going outside to play.” Nice one.

Here’s some of the footage of Kimmel’s discussion on his TV show:
